CASTEL CAMPING LE BREVEDNT

Tuesday, 3 May 2016

We’re here!! Our journey around Europe has officially begun. We had a bit of trouble with the car on Friday morning back in London so we took it to the garage round the corner and the mechanic seemed to think it was the starter motor. He ordered a new one for us and said he would come in on Saturday morning to fit it as he knew we had to leave for our trip. He stripped it back, checked the starter motor and actually said it was all fine and didn’t charge us for his time (thank you South London Clutch and Gearbox centre). He said he would usually keep it in for a few days (could possibly be the starter motor relay??) but as we didn’t have the time we’ve set off in the hopes that it will be ok…fingers crossed!

We arrived at Castel Camping le Brevedent on Sunday afternoon. The drive down from Calais took about 3 and a half hours in which we managed to hit about 5 tolls, whoops. So we’ve certainly turned that setting off on the sat nav! The campsite is on the grounds of a former hunting lodge of one of the Louis’ and they opened it up to caravaners and campers to pay for the maintenance of the house. It’s still low season so it’s very quiet, the shop doesn't have much in but they serve fresh baguettes and pastries in the morning and thats all we need really!

As we haven’t camped since September we’re taking the time to get back into the swings of things and remembering the easiest ways to do everything. We’ve had a day of relaxing at the tent and yesterday we visited Omaha Beach. The sun is shining but its still pretty chilly. Just before we left London I went and bought some new sleeping bags as I suddenly realised our cheapo ones weren’t going to cut it, best decision I’ve made I think!!

So tomorrow we move on to Brittany, we’re ready to explore somewhere else now, I think there are small mountains to climb and canals to walk up…and most importantly I made sure the campsite shop sells pastries!
